Holla, holla, holla people! 😎😎 Miss me?
So, let's ride this rollercoaster. Whatyasay?
So, let's ride this rollercoaster. Whatyasay?
Yes, I met this man onboard, Mr M (yeah, we're playing letter names 🤗), he made some calls and that gave him out as an Hausa man, and yes, he automatically became my 'tour guide.' He helped myself and two other corp members get a taxi that took us all to our individual parks (I was to go to Katsina camp, another was to go to Kano camp while the third lady was going to... Was it Jigawa? Or Taraba? I really can't remember 😒) Dhurr, summary is, he was of immense help to us. He only left for his park after ensuring we were safely tucked into the buses 'jetting' us to our camps. He even paid for the drop 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭 (his niceness is what's making the tears flow, lol).
Lol, funny thing is, not one of us had the slightest idea of the Hausa language Mr. M and the driver were communicating in, so we just kept our cool and watched. Both even argued a bit over transport fare (yeah, I knew that 'cos I know my numbers in Hausa. It's like the only thing I remember from my junior school Hausa classes 😋). At that moment, our destiny was in God's hands, whatever happens, we take in good fate. We just had to trust our guide 😑 We had no choice bro, we were on a deadline to get to camp, so... (so much for the African parent thing of ''don't talk to strangers'', ''don't follow strangers.'' Dear, we had choices back then 😂😆😆)
I think I told you already that Hausa language is the predominant language in Northern Nigeria. Well, I just did 😊😋😋
I was the last they took to my garage. You can imagine, just me with two men whose language I don't understand, crazy thoughts we running in my head (😂😂 thoughts of an intro. You gotta be an intro to understand 😂) Then, they took me to the garage. It was another tongue blasting between the trio (now Mr. M, the taxi man and the bus driver at the garage) I thought I was been put up for an auction 😭😭😭😭
Craziest thing was, it was camping season and I'm not seeing another corp member on board. Everyone was a grade one Hausa speaking person, no one spoke English, not even my driver. I was paranoid 😭 ''What's happening? Is this even a garage? This place is not even standard.'' Well, those were the questions running through my mind. To worsen the case, the bus I was told to board was the only one parked on that highway 😲 But then, I looked a little forward and I saw a full blown garage. Yeah, I had some peace and gained some confidence. But really, my mind was made up for whatever will be will be 😩😩
Another laugh, the driver said he wasn't exactly going my way, but I shouldn't worry, he'll lead me to the one who'll help me to my destination (Lol. Yeah, it was Mr. M who told me this before leaving, my driver wasn't much of an English speaking person). ''What!!! 😲😲'' I was literally dead. But I appreciated the honesty. What if the guy didn't mention that from the start and then just drop me off on the road? 😲 I can't even imagine. ''God forbid!'' I rebuked the thought. (This honesty was a big turn on for me by the way. Drivers at my side in the west wouldn't tell you nothing. Especially that you don't speak their language or know your way? Dear, you're meat for exploit 🙄🙄) Talking about exploitation, the driver told me my approximately 3 hour journey is for just #500 Nigerian money, lol, and I was so sure I'm up for auction. Like man, a 2 hour journey can't be less than #1000 back at my side (I'm from Western Nigeria baby), the #500 pricing was just too good to be true. So, yes boo, the people on this side of Nigeria pass for 'HONEST' with me.
Well, I'm not trying to badmouth my people, just, you know, some honest comparison of my past and present experiences.
As I was saying... Two cute ladies popped from another cab and they were going my way, yayyyyyyy!!! 💃💃💃💃💃💃 Lol. It was the conductor who broke this awesome news to me. Mehn, guy knew I was so uncomfortable not seeing a familiar face (a female non-Hausa speaking corp member was my definition of familiar then. Maybe a male could have passed too, but I really was looking forward to a she and I found two ✌✌ I'd forgotten what friendship with a guy was like till recently. NYSC really is my ground for new trainings. I'll tell you about that later if my gist scope covers it 😁)
And then, we kicked off enroute Katsina 💃💃 I guess this is where I start telling you guys about my Northern Nigeria turn ons.
...INTERMISSION...
